Key Functions
- Gather and compile data from forestry operations, wood processing facilities, supply chains, and financial systems.
- Design and maintain databases to store and manage large datasets related to forestry resources, harvesting schedules, production metrics, financial transactions, and environmental impacts.
- Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and accessibility through proper data governance practices.
- Analyse data related to forest inventory, timber yield, wood product quality, and financial performance using statistical techniques and predictive modelling.
- Monitor and assess the efficiency of forestry operations, including silviculture, harvesting, timber transportation, processing performance, and associated costs.
- Provide insights into trends affecting wood processing, such as equipment performance, material waste, operational downtime, and their financial implications.
- Collaborate with finance teams to analyse costs associated with forest management, harvesting, production, and distribution, identifying cost-saving opportunities and areas for financial improvement.
- Monitor financial metrics such as revenue, profit margins, operational costs, and return on investment (ROI) for forestry projects and wood processing activities.
- Support the finance team with profitability analyses by linking operational performance data (e.g., yield rates, process efficiency) to financial outcomes.
- Develop comprehensive reports and dashboards to communicate key performance indicators (KPIs), production outcomes, financial metrics, and environmental data.
- Present findings clearly and concisely to stakeholders, including forestry managers, operations teams, finance departments, sustainability officers, and executives.
- Create visualisations (charts, graphs, maps) to illustrate trends in forestry, wood processing, and financial performance, enabling better decision-making.
The Candidate
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Accounting, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of forestry operations, wood processing technologies, and supply chain logistics within the forestry sector.
- Solid understanding of financial metrics, cost management, and profitability analysis in a forestry/wood processing context.
- Advanced certifications in data analytics, forestry, or production management and financial analysis are advantageous.
- Advanced knowledge of forest modelling software (e.g., Remsoft, Woodstock, Tigermoth).
- Proficiency in data analytics tools and programming languages (e.g., Python, R, SQL, Excel).
- Experience with financial analysis tools, budgeting software, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
- Knowledge of statistical analysis, predictive modelling, and financial forecasting techniques.
- Expertise in data visualisation tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) to create financial and operational reports.
