Key Functions
- Plan, organise, and manage veneer production to meet volume, quality, and cost targets.
- Plan, organise, and manage sawmill and chip mill production to meet volume, quality, and cost targets.
- Monitor production schedules and adjust operations to meet deadlines while minimising downtime.
- Monitor productivity rates and product standards, ensuring output conforms to stipulated quality standards.
- Analyse production data to identify areas for process improvement.
- Generate production reports, including efficiency metrics, waste reduction, and downtime analysis.
- Implement best practices and new technologies to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
- Ensure optimal utilisation of raw materials, machinery, and labour.
- Ensure that health and safety guidelines are always adhered to.
- Ensure that relevant environmental standards and policies are always followed.
- Establish and maintain quality control standards for veneer production.
- Collaborate with quality control teams to address defects and ensure products meet specifications.
- Responsible for implementing and following the company’s Chain of Custody system.
- Supervise and mentor production staff, ensuring alignment with operational goals.
The Candidate
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in (eucalyptus) veneer production management, particularly with spindle-less lathes.
- Solid knowledge of wood processing technology (saw milling, veneer production, wood chip production).
- Experience in leading a production organisation of at least 50 people.
- Familiarity with Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody procedures.
- Experience in processing fast-growing industrial species is an advantage.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programmes.
- Experience in wood quality control systems.
